Airway Complications in an Obese Patient following Anaesthesia for Upper Airway Disease: Perioperative Considerations; Supraglottic Airways (SGAs) as a Rescue Device

Bulbulia BA and Ahmed MR

Septoplasty with or without endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for chronic sinusitus are routine procedures done for upper airway obstruction. Obesity remains a risk factor for anaesthesia. Problems relate not only to airway management but to all major systems and is a major factor contributing to morbidity and mortality. Clinical indices in predicting difficult airways are helpful and supraglottic airway devices (SGAs) useful as rescue in the event of a difficult or failed intubation.
